Solo Crossings

I cannot come with you

on your journey.

This is one that time and again

You must make alone.

Why it is

you must enter the darkness

with no hand to hold,

I can’t answer, my sister,

No one can.

I have learned

it is fickle,

this world of ours.

Paradox surrounds us, leaving us to struggle,

to rage,

against the randomness of it all.

But while you travel

know one thing:

that I am on shore

patiently awaiting you,

scanning the horizon for a glimpse,

arms outstretched,

a safe, sunlit harbor

for all your days.
